Anderson Internal Centrifugal Separators

IM · DIM · ID · DID

Anderson Internal Centrifugal Separators remove entrained liquids and solids from steam, vapor, gas, and process streams inside existing vessels. Installed in evaporators, towers, receivers, and knockout drums, these separators use Anderson Hi-eF™ centrifugal separation technology to deliver clean, dry vapor with low pressure drop and no moving parts, screens, or filters.

Designed for

Anderson Internal Centrifugal Separators are designed as vessel-mounted internals that use engineered vanes to create controlled centrifugal force inside the steam, vapor, or gas flow path. This design strips entrained liquid droplets and solids from the stream, directs separated liquid back to the vessel through drains or ejectors, and allows clean, dry vapor to exit with low pressure drop. With no moving parts, screens, or filters, these internal centrifugal separators provide reliable vapor-liquid separation for demanding tower, evaporator, and process vessel service.

Product configurations

  • IM. Upflow internal separator for evaporators, towers, and vessels where upward vapor flow is required.

  • DIM. Disassemblable upflow internal separator for large or existing vessels requiring manway installation.

  • ID. Downflow internal separator.

  • DID. Disassemblable downflow internal separator for large or existing vessels requiring manway installation.

Key points of differentiation

  • Low maintenance design. No moving parts, filters, or screens means fewer wear components and reduced maintenance requirements.

  • Low pressure drop. Efficient internal flow paths help protect system performance while removing entrained liquids and solids.

  • Retrofit-ready options. DIM and DID configurations are designed for installation through standard manways, supporting upgrades to existing vessels.

  • Broad material options. Carbon steel, stainless steel separation elements, and specialty alloys support demanding process environments.

Applications

Anderson Internal Centrifugal Separators efficiently remove entrainment across a broad range of process equipment and vessel applications. Their compact, vessel-mounted design supports both new installations and retrofits where clean, dry vapor, low pressure drop, and reliable performance are essential.

  • Evaporators and concentrators. Removes entrained liquid droplets and solids from rising vapor streams to improve product recovery, protect downstream equipment, and support cleaner condensate.

  • Distillation columns and vacuum towers. Controls liquid carryover between process stages, helping maintain separation efficiency, product purity, and stable tower operation.

  • Receivers and process vessels. Separates entrained moisture and solids within the vessel before vapor exits to piping, compressors, or other downstream equipment.

  • Deodorizers in food and fragrance processing. Captures process liquid and fine droplets from vapor streams, supporting product quality and reducing contamination of vacuum and recovery systems.

  • High-efficiency vapor scrubbers. Provides a final centrifugal separation stage that removes fine entrainment while maintaining low pressure drop across the vapor system.

  • Knockout drums and internal gas-liquid separation services. Enhances bulk liquid removal by capturing residual droplets before gas or vapor proceeds to downstream processing or compression.

Principle of operation

  1. Entry. Vapor enters below the separator and flows upward toward the separation elements.

  2. Acceleration. Engineered vanes impart a controlled centrifugal motion to the vapor stream.

  3. Separation. Entrained liquid droplets and solids move outward, contact the separation surfaces, and coalesce.

  4. Drainage. Separated liquid drains out of the vapor flow path and returns to the vessel.

  5. Discharge. Clean, dry vapor exits upward with low pressure drop.
