Anderson / Separator Vessels / Centrifugal Separators / Type BI Steam Drum Internal Separator
Anderson Steam Drum Internal Separator
BI · BI-6 · BI-10
The Anderson Type BI Steam Drum Internal Separator is a vessel-mounted centrifugal separator engineered to remove entrained water droplets and solids from steam inside boiler and HRSG steam drums. Using Anderson Hi-eF™ separation technology, it delivers clean, dry steam with low pressure drop while helping protect superheater surfaces and support high-purity steam service.

LIVE 3D SECTION
Designed for
Designed specifically for installation inside steam drums, the Type BI uses a controlled, three-stage flow path to separate entrained liquid and solids before steam leaves the vessel. Separated liquid is returned below the drum water level through ejector drains. The compact design has no moving parts, filters, or screens, supporting reliable operation with minimal maintenance.
Product configurations
BI. Steam drum internal centrifugal separator for superheater protection and high-purity steam service. Available in BI-6 and BI-10 sizes with 316 stainless steel separation elements.
Key points of differentiation
Steam quality. Removes entrained moisture and solids before steam exits the drum, supporting dry, high-purity steam.
Superheater protection. Helps reduce the carryover of solids that can accumulate on superheater tube walls.
Low pressure drop. The engineered internal flow path supports separation without unnecessarily compromising steam system performance.
Low maintenance. No moving parts, filters, or screens means fewer wear components and no routine element replacement.
Compact internal design. Fits within the steam drum and returns separated liquid below the water level through ejector drains.
Applications
Boiler steam drums.
Heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) steam drums.
Superheater protection.
High-purity and dry steam service.
Principle of operation
Type BI three-stage separation:
Centrifugal force. Controlled downward rotary motion drives liquid droplets and solids out of the steam by centrifugal force.
Gravity. The rotating flow slows and transitions into a more linear path, allowing additional entrainment to drop out.
Centrifugal force. Renewed centrifugal action removes the remaining entrainment before clean, dry steam exits the vessel.
Separated-liquid return. Collected liquid is routed below the drum water level through ejector drains.
