Anderson / Separator Vessels / Centrifugal Exhaust Heads
Exhaust Heads
EH · CEH
The Anderson EH and CEH Exhaust Heads are centrifugal mechanical separators that remove entrained liquids from steam, gas, and vapor exhaust streams before they discharge to the atmosphere. Installed at the top of industrial stacks, vents, or exhaust lines, they help prevent water, oil, and process liquids from blowing out of stacks, protecting surrounding equipment, buildings, roofs, and personnel areas.

Designed for
Anderson Exhaust Heads were designed for atmospheric discharge points where liquid carryover can create visible wet exhaust, staining, corrosion, cleanup costs, or unsafe walking and working conditions. They are commonly used on boiler vents, steam drum vents, deaerator and feedwater heater vents, tank and process vessel vents, relief discharge stacks, compressor or blower exhaust lines, and other industrial venting applications.
Product configurations
CEH Cast-Iron Exhaust Head. A compact exhaust head for small to medium steam or vapor vents, available in NPT and flanged configurations with an internal helix for centrifugal separation.
EH Fabricated Exhaust Head. A fabricated steel exhaust head for larger industrial stacks and exhaust lines, available with slip-on or flanged connections and a stainless-steel centrifugal element.
Key points of differentiation
Highly efficient centrifugal separation. Removes entrained water, oil, and process liquids from exhaust vapor before discharge.
Low cost, low maintenance operation. Provides reliable mechanical separation without routine filter replacement.
No back pressure. Supports atmospheric venting applications where unrestricted discharge is important.
Flexibility for different operating conditions. CEH models use cast-iron construction, while EH models use fabricated steel with stainless steel internals.
Broad size range. Supports small steam vents through large industrial stacks, with custom-engineered larger EH sizes available.
Applications
Anderson exhaust heads are primarily used at atmospheric discharge points where steam, gas, air, or process vapor may carry liquid droplets or solids out of a vent or stack. Common applications include:
Boiler and auxiliary steam vents, including startup vents, blowoff vents, and intermittent steam discharges.
Deaerator and feedwater-heater vents.
Steam-drum and flash-tank vents.
Condensate receiver and hotwell vents.
Pressure-relief valve discharge stacks.
Compressed-air receiver, compressor, and blower exhausts.
Process-vessel and storage-tank vents.
Evaporator, digester, and other process-vapor exhausts carrying water, oil, or process liquor.
Industrial stacks where entrainment could wet roofs, stain buildings, corrode nearby equipment, create slippery areas, or cause visible fallout.
The main industries are power generation, refining, gas processing, chemical processing, and other steam-intensive industrial plants.
In general, the CEH is suited to smaller steam or vapor vents, while the fabricated EH is used on larger industrial stacks and on exhaust streams containing troublesome oil, water, or process liquids.
Principle of operation
Centrifugal force. Denser liquid droplets and solids are thrown outward, collected, and drained through the bottom connection, while cleaned vapor exits vertically to atmosphere.
