Clark Combination Separator Traps integrate a high-efficiency moisture separator with automatic float-operated drainage in one compact unit. The combination design helps deliver cleaner, drier service media while simplifying installation. With proper sizing, line pressure drop is negligible, supporting dependable system performance without unnecessary energy loss.
Designed for
Combination separator traps are designed for steam, air, and gas piping systems where entrained liquid must be separated from the flowing media and drained automatically. They are well suited to installations that need a compact moisture-separation solution, fewer pipe fittings, and dependable condensate removal.
By combining separation and drainage in a single assembly, these traps help protect downstream equipment, improve process reliability, and maintain cleaner, drier lines.
Product configurations
532–533. 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch line sizes; rated to 200 PSIG.
534–539. 1-inch through 3-inch line sizes; rated to 300 PSIG for air or gas service and to 250 PSIG for steam service.
Key points of differentiation
Two functions in one compact unit. Separates entrained moisture and automatically drains condensate, reducing installation complexity and the number of pipe fittings required.
Cleaner, drier service media. The integrated separator supports effective moisture removal from air, steam, and gas lines.
Maintains operating efficiency. Properly sized traps yield negligible pressure drop while removing liquid from the system.
Durable construction. High-pressure ASTM Class 30 cast iron bodies pair with stainless steel floats, levers, brackets, pins, seats, and discs.
Long service life. Through wear-resistant valve components like heat-treated stainless-steel seats, discs, and pins
Flexible system integration. Models cover line sizes from 1/2 inch through 3 inches.
Applications
Clark Combination Separator Traps are used wherever entrained liquids must be removed from steam, compressed air, or gas piping before it reaches downstream equipment. Typical applications include:
Steam mains and distribution lines
Compressed air headers and branch lines
Process gas piping
Moisture removal upstream of valves, instruments, and equipment
Industrial heating and process systems
Manufacturing, chemical processing, food processing, and power generation facilities
Installations where a compact separator-and-drain package can reduce piping complexity
Principle of operation
Moisture separation. Wet steam, air, or gas enters the trap body. The separator section removes entrained liquid from the flowing media.
Liquid collection. Separated moisture and condensate collect in the lower portion of the body around the stainless-steel float.
Float response. As the liquid level rises, buoyancy lifts the float and moves the lever mechanism.
Automatic discharge. The lever opens the discharge valve, allowing line pressure to force the collected liquid out through the liquid outlet.
Positive closure. As the liquid level falls, the float lowers and the valve closes, conserving the service media while the separator continues to remove incoming moisture.
